2008 BMW 3-Series Before & After Valeting Near Yeovil
There are quite a few vehicles that were in a car park near a new building project near Yeovil. A company was brought in to spray the steel structure with fire retardant paint. During the period of spraying, the spray was blown across dozens of vehicles not far from the spray area. As this process consists of a number of coats of various types of paint, some vehicles were contanimated a number of times.
We were initially tasked with removing the overspray. Having dealt with numerous cases of overspray removal, from vehicle painting, building painting etc. We tried the usual methods we use for removing overspray. Having consulted the chemist at one of our chemical suppliers, a variety of chemicals were tried, with no effect. This paint is like no other type we have encountered. It bonded to ANY hard surface it came across, whether paint or glass. Where the spots were on the windscreen, it damaged the rubbers of the wiper blades
This led us to a method we don't normally use for this purpose: wetsanding. The process involves sanding the paintwork to remove the paint spots. It sounds a brutal process, and if misused can result in damage to the vehicle. We sanded in various stages, both by machine and by hand. Once the spots had been removed, the paintwork was then machine polished back to gloss. The spots were removed from glass with blades.
